This quick and easy garlic bread transforms a simple loaf with a fragrant butter paste and a hot broiler for a crispy, golden finish. It’s the perfect comforting side for any weeknight meal, ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread (16-18 inches long)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4-5 large garlic cloves, finely minced or pressed
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Let butter soften. Finely mince garlic, chop parsley, and grate Parmesan cheese.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, Parmesan, parsley, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Mix into a uniform paste.
  3. Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise. Place both halves cut-side up on a baking sheet.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the entire cut surface of both bread halves.
  5. Place baking sheet under a preheated broiler set to high. Broil for 3-5 minutes, watching closely, until edges are deeply golden brown and butter is bubbling.
  6. Remove from oven. Let cool for 1 minute, then slice into 1-inch pieces. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use softened butter and fresh garlic. Do not walk away while broiling. Leftovers can be stored at room temperature for 1 day and recrisped under the broiler.
