A cozy, flavor-packed weeknight meal featuring plump shrimp seared and coated in a glossy, sweet, and savory honey garlic sauce, all served over fluffy rice. It comes together quickly with simple techniques for maximum flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter. Once hot, add shrimp in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until pink. Remove shrimp to a plate.
  3. Reduce heat to medium. Add remaining 1 tablespoon butter to the skillet. Add garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Whisk in soy sauce, honey, and rice vinegar. Simmer for 1 minute.
  5. Mix cornstarch and cold water into a slurry. Whisk slurry into the simmering sauce and cook 1-2 minutes until thickened and glossy.
  6. Return shrimp and any juices to the skillet. Toss to coat in sauce and heat through for about 1 minute.
  7. Serve shrimp and sauce over bowls of rice. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For gluten-free, use tamari. Do not overcrowd the shrimp when searing. Patting shrimp dry ensures a good sear. Avoid overcooking shrimp to keep them tender.
