With their signature crinkled tops and melt-in-your-mouth texture, they have become a non-negotiable part of our family holiday baking lineup. They are the perfect blend of nostalgic comfort and festive joy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15.25 oz) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 (8 oz) block full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup holiday sprinkles (jimmies or nonpareils work best)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat softened cream cheese and butter until completely smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry cake mix, mixing on low speed until a soft, sticky dough forms.
  5. Switch to a spatula and gently fold in holiday sprinkles until evenly distributed.
  6. Place powdered sugar in a small bowl. Portion dough and roll into 1-inch balls.
  7. Roll each ball generously in powdered sugar until completely coated.
  8. Place coated dough balls about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until puffed with cracked tops and soft centers.
  10. Let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store completely cooled cookies in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days. For freezing, place baked cookies or dough balls in freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Dough requires chilling for easier handling. Do not overbake to maintain gooey texture.
