These playful fruit skewers create the iconic striped hat of Dr. Seuss’s famous cat. Made with just strawberries and bananas, they are a fun, healthy, and whimsical snack perfect for themed parties or a creative family treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 2-3 large just-ripe bananas
  • 1 small bag mini marshmallows (optional)
  • 10-12 wooden skewers (6-inch)

Instructions

  1. Wash strawberries and pat them completely dry with a paper towel. Peel bananas and slice into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  2. Thread one strawberry onto a skewer, pushing it down about halfway.
  3. Add one banana slice directly above the strawberry.
  4. Repeat the pattern, alternating strawberry and banana, until you have 4-5 layers, leaving about 1.5 inches at the top.
  5. Finish with a final strawberry at the very top. For an optional hat puff, carefully add one mini marshmallow to the tip.
  6. Repeat with remaining skewers. Arrange on a platter and serve immediately.

Notes

To prevent banana browning if making ahead, toss slices in a little lemon juice. For a healthier version, omit the marshmallow or top with a blueberry instead. Use firm, just-ripe bananas to avoid mushy slices.
