This recipe delivers juicy, smoky, and tangy BBQ chicken breast with minimal effort. It uses a simple sear-and-sauce method that works in any kitchen, perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep. The result is flavorful, tender chicken that’s versatile for salads, wraps, or a classic comfort food plate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 to 2 pounds total)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce, divided
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels. If needed, pound to an even 1/2 to 3/4-inch thickness.
  2. In a small bowl, mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Drizzle chicken with olive oil, then rub spice mixture evenly on both sides.
  3. Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown (it will not be fully cooked).
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Pour 3/4 cup BBQ sauce over chicken, turning to coat. Optionally, mix remaining 1/4 cup sauce with apple cider vinegar or honey and brush over top.
  5. Transfer skillet to preheated oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Let chicken rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra BBQ sauce if desired.

Notes

For even cooking, use chicken breasts of similar size. A meat thermometer ensures perfect doneness. Letting the chicken rest is crucial for juiciness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
